Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 21, 2008 by Josh Harvey

Monday was Martin Luther King Day .  Dr. King's dream of racial equality has not yet been fully realized, but we've certainly made progress toward that all-important goal.  At LSU, UT and the other schools we visit, we look around and see a rainbow of skin tones flow in and out of the classrooms.  Scenes like this would have been hard to imagine only half a century ago.

Storyville physically exists in two collegiate communities where diversity is accepted and appreciated.  The artists, designers and models we work with are extraordinary individuals from all walks of life.  The communities that have grown up around UT and LSU are the beneficiaries of the work of generations of individuals who believed in equality.  From Benjamin Franklin to Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King and beyond, many an American has fought to promote racial equality and harmony, and we're living in a better world because of their efforts.

Thanks to the work of Dr. King and other civil rights activists, our lives have been thoroughly enriched.  We must never forget that we are the beneficiaries of their great work and sacrifice.
